As I have researched, the sept McCormick (MacCormack), falls under the clan Maclaine of Lochbuie. As I am very interested in my ancestry, I’ve always wanted to know what tartan(s) I should wear/display. Do all McCormicks fall under the clan affiliation of the Maclaine of Lochbuie, or are there other affiliations from different areas of Scotland.
Answer:
The MacCormicks are indeed a sept of Clan Maclaine of Lochbuie. There are no other affiliations to other clans in Scotland. Where confusion sometimes arises is where an individual family may have relocated from Mull to another geographical location within Scotland. In such instances that family would have then sworn allegiance to the land owner where they settled, despite their root affiliation being to the Lochbuies.
