I recently went to the highland games and they told me from a book that McLamb is Maclaine of Lochbuie. Is this correct or not?
I am aware that the surname Maclamb has been linked to the Clan Maclaine of Lochbuie, but the precise origin or justification for this linkage is unknown to me.
A quick search of the Web suggests Maclambs were located in Dumfries, an area some 100 miles to the south of the hereditary Maclaine lands. It is however quite possible that members of the greater Maclamb family did at some time in the past associate themselves with the Maclaine clan, but that speculation I cannot prove.
The dominant clans of Dumfries were Gordons, Maxwells and Douglas.
Sorry I cannot be more definitive for your search.
