Tartans of Maclaine of Lochbuie
The Maclaine of Lochbuie tartans were recorded prior to the launch of The Scottish Register of Tartans in 1810.
The Lochbuie “red” or dress tartan first appears on formal record in the Cockburn Collection in 1810. The Lochbuie “blue” or hunting tar is first mention by D. W. Stewart in his book on tartans in 1893. Undoubtedly both tartans would have proceeded these two dates, but their age is not known.
It is convention for the 'dress' tartans to be worn in the evenings with the 'hunting' tartans worn during the day.
